What is Tony’s Chocolonely and what does it do?

When three journalists from the Dutch television program “Keuringsdienst van Waarde” discovered that the largest chocolate producers in the world were purchasing cocoa from plantations that engaged in unlawful child labour and modern slavery, they formed Tony’s Chocolonely. Following this, Tony’s Chocolately made sure to focus all of its efforts on bringing attention to the disparities in the market for ethical chocolate brands.

They made the decision to set a good example by establishing direct, long-lasting connections with cocoa producers in Ghana and the Ivory Coast. The company announced a collaboration to address the roots of modern slavery and promised to pay these workers more than they had previously been paid. The brand wants to motivate the entire industry to standardise “100% slave-free” in the chocolate industry. The largest chocolate brand in the Netherlands, Tony’s Chocolonely is currently sold in several regions, including the USA and Europe.
